Folsom, CA (MPG) - The Falcons opened their 2019-20 season by hosting three other colleges for the inaugural Folsom Lake Falcon Classic Tournament on Friday and Saturday.  Friday’s matchup had the Falcons taking on Copper Mountain College (from Twentynine Palms/Joshua Tree), another young program also in their third year of competition.  The lead changed hands several times throughout the first half with the visiting Fighting Cacti taking a 43-41 lead into the locker room at halftime.  In the second half, the Cacti gradually pulled away to a 89-78 win.  The Falcons finished with four players in double figures, led by freshman Pierce Rexford’s 17 points.  Sophomores Gavyn Kamminga and Grant Bellis and freshman Jaylen Solich all netted 11 in the loss. 

On Saturday, the Falcons took on Columbia College (Sonora), a winner over Cosumnes River on Friday afternoon.  The Claim Jumpers built a solid first-half lead (57-41 at half), but the Falcons made a second-half run to pull within six before running out of steam, 94-81.  Clayton DavisGrant Bellis, and Pierce Rexford all scored 16 for the Falcons, while Michael Robinson led the team with 9 rebounds. 

The Falcons’ next game will be on Friday night when they host Yuba College at 6:00 pm.
