SACRAMENTO REGION, CA (MPG) - The Center for Workers’ Rights, located in Sacramento, California, has launched a telephone helpline for workers with questions regarding the impact of the Coronavirus. With support from the Sacramento Central Labor Council, the newly-launched helpline assists impacted workers with unemployment, paid family leave, FMLA, disability, sick leave, paid time off, and other questions related to the Coronavirus. The Center for Workers’ Rights has years of experience assisting working people with unemployment insurance and other claims. The free assistance is available to workers in both in English and Spanish.

In order to keep staff, volunteers, and working people safe, the program is currently being conducted remotely, by telephone. The service can be reached by dialing #211, or by calling the Center’s helpline at (916) 905-1625.

“During this critical period, when so many members of our community have questions about the impact of the Coronavirus on their working lives, we’re able to waive our eligibility requirements, and make these services available to all Sacramentans at no cost. And the Center is always available to working people regardless of immigration status, which is particularly important right now,” explained the Center’s founder and executive director, attorney Daniela Urban. She also noted that the Center is providing individualized consultations to callers where needed, under the supervision of a licensed attorney. Trained volunteers include local law students, as well as labor and employment attorneys ready to help Sacramentans during this time.

This free helpline service is currently up and running, and can be reached from 9am to 5:30pm.
