FAIR OAKS, CA (MPG) - The Rotary Club of Fair Oaks has approximately 90 members. The Orangevale-Fair Oaks Food Bank currently serves over 2,400 families every month (of course, as the pandemic stretches out, that number will increase dramatically!) Meristem is a unique Fair Oaks organization that provides guidance and support for over 50 young adults on the autism spectrum, to greater independence and fulfillment.

Recently, the Rotary Club of Fair Oaks began sponsoring a Rotaract Club at Meristem. Rotaract is an international adjunct to Rotary International for young adults, just as Interact Clubs are adjuncts of local Rotary Clubs for high-schoolers. There are over 10,000 Rotaract Clubs in 184 countries. There are over 20,000 Interact Clubs in 159 countries!

Friday, May 15th, the Meristem Rotaract Club and the Orangevale Fair Oaks Food Bank teamed up to deliver food to home-bound adults in the Fair Oaks area. Eric Seward led the Meristem Rotaract Club team.

And … the Food Bank is incredibly excited to announce that as of Saturday, May 23, 2020, they added another distribution day in Fair Oaks. And … they will have their mobile trailer distribution on the 3rd Thursday of each month as the need continues at New Life Community Church (8101 Sunset Ave. Fair Oaks) from 10-12:30pm.

This is the Power of local groups banding together for the good of the community!

But wait, there’s more!

Rise Against Hunger is an international hunger relief non-profit organization that coordinates the packaging and distribution of food and other aid to people in developing nations.

Rise Against Hunger held a fundraiser called "Go the Social Distance"...a virtual 5K/10K race … was held from May 15 to 17.

249 Athletes have signed up to participate for the event, coming from many U.S. states, as well as England, Italy, and the Philippines.

18 Fair Oaks Rotarians either ran or walked as well....and raised over $700 for Rise Against Hunger.

If not for the pandemic, our Rotary Club of Fair Oaks, as well as Bella Vista Interact Club students were planning an actual food packing event, which had been scheduled for May 16, 2020.
