SACRAMENTO COUNTY, CA (MPG) - The County has appointed Jim Hunt as Acting Director of the Department of Health Services. His appointment is effective Monday, Dec. 21.

Hunt has extensive experience with Sacramento County. He was the Director of Health and Human Services from 1997-2006 and was Deputy Administrator for what is now the Social Services Agency (the agency that oversees Health Services), from 2006-07. Prior to that, he was the Chief of Administration and Deputy Director for Health Services from 1992-97, Workers’ Compensation Manager from 1991-92, and served in a series of increasingly responsible positions with the County from 1973-91.

“Jim is extremely familiar with the importance and operation of the programs and services provided by Health Services, and has a strong background in the administration of the department, including management of fiscal, budgetary, contract, personnel and other administrative services,” said Bruce Wagstaff, Deputy County Executive for Social Services. “Jim’s experience will allow him to transition into the role and seamlessly continue the department’s operations.”

While Hunt was the Director of Health and Human Services, he oversaw Child Protective Services, Mental Health Services, Alcohol and Drug Services, Services for Seniors and Dependent Adults, Public Health and Primary Health Services. He also directly supervised the Public Health Officer and eight managers.

Hunt will serve in the Acting Director of Health Services role while the County conducts a nationwide search for the permanent position.
