CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA (MPG) - The parking lot of the newly opened Green Acres Nursery and Supply at 6128 Greenback Lane in Citrus Heights has been packed since a soft opening a week ago.

Opened just in time for spring gardening season, house plants, vegetables and herbs, roses, and fruit trees have been selling briskly. The new store is the sixth location for the family-owned Sacramento-based business.

The new gardening and nursery center occupies the former Antique Trove mall which sat vacant for many years. Its 24,297-square-foot building features an additional acre of outdoor and greenhouse space. 

“First-time customers are honestly enthusiastic, that there’s a knowledgeable, friendly, full-service garden center now open in their community, said store manager Joann Golden.

“Many people are getting their spring gardens started, and herbs, and veggies have been selling well,” she said. “Flowers and flowering plants have also been popular.

“We have between 70 and 80 current team members who are committed to the gardening success of our customers,” Golden said. “We’re hiring, and candidates can find information on our website.”

The store is about 75 percent stocked at this time. A greenhouse is under construction with more inventory which continues to arrive daily, Golden said. Customers can also shop online and pick up their merchandise curbside.

“It’s a happy place to work, Golden said. The new business is the first dedicated nursery in the Citrus Heights area since the closure of Capitol Nursery on Madison Avenue in 2012.

“In time we hope to offer the Citrus Heights community informative workshops and events related to gardening which we’ve held in our other locations before,” she said.

Green Acres offers a wide variety of plants, trees, soils and pottery, among other gardening supplies, having a total of seven retail locations in the greater Sacramento area with the opening of its Citrus Heights nursery.

“There is still some minor construction going on. We still have a lot of product that has not arrived at the store yet,” she said.

Green Acres offers all things needed to create a beautiful outdoor space, including pottery, lighting, and supplies for irrigation, landscape, ponds and fountains. Its outdoor living department offers an extensive line of quality patio furniture from leading manufacturers, barbecue grills, outdoor umbrellas, patio and garden décor, and other accessories.
