The City of Martinez is hosting a free virtual home composting workshop in English and Spanish. Composting your yard trimmings and food scraps is easy, great for your yard and garden, kind to our environment, and good for you too! Save water, save money, and conserve natural resources.

 

Reasons to Attend

Preventing unnecessary waste is an important goal for all of us. Did you know…

· The number one single item in our garbage is food scraps? A lot of the food is even edible when it is thrown away.

· Almost 28% of what is in the average garbage can is food scraps. Combined yard trimmings and food scraps equal more than 58% of the total waste going to landfills. Knowing this means there is a great opportunity to divert this material away from landfills, into a composting system, and back into our landscape.

· Learning how to compost and keeping organic materials onsite, as homemade compost, is one of the most important activities one can do for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and helping our environment.

 

The instructor, Todd Sutton, aka The Waste Sleuth, is a waste prevention expert with more than 29 years in the environmental field. He has appeared on national television, including Discovery and the History channels, and has educated thousands on sustainable materials management, zero waste concepts, waste prevention, reuse, recycling, and composting.
