Meet Rancho Cordova's New Assistant Chief of Police

RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - Meet the City of Rancho Cordova’s new Assistant Chief of Police, Matt Tamayo!

Tamayo has over 20 years of law enforcement experience with the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office and holds a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice Management. He previously held assignments at the Rancho Cordova Police Department, including Patrol Supervisor, Patrol Watch Commander, and Operations Commander.

While assigned to the Sheriff's Office as a deputy, sergeant and lieutenant, Tamayo held assignments in multiple service areas, including corrections, patrol, the Problem Oriented Policing Unit, the Gang Suppression Unit, narcotics, and Internal Affairs. He recently served as the Assistant Commander of the Sheriff's Office Professional Standards Division.

Tamayo has been consistently involved in training throughout his career and has instructed numerous courses, including Principled Policing and the Sheriff's Leadership Program.

"I am appreciative and honored to serve as the Assistant Chief," said Tamayo. "Having previously been assigned to the Rancho Cordova Police Department, I am incredibly aware of the support we have from the community. This is a direct result of the partnerships that have been fostered by the city and police department, community groups, and those who live and work here."
