CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA (MPG) - If you grew up as a Toys ‘R’ Us kid, as many of us did, there’s a good reason to celebrate.

A physical Toys ‘R’ Us store is opening inside every Macy’s store across the country, including its long-time store in the Sunrise Mall in Citrus Heights.

WHP Global, which acquired a controlling stake in the beloved toy retailer in March 2022, has partnered with Macy’s, Inc. to bring Toys ‘R’ Us shops into the department store’s more than 400 physical brick and mortar stores and its online locations.

On the ground floor of Macy’s South, at 6041 Sunrise Mall, home of its women’s, children’s and infant’s store at the Sunrise Mall, a new Toys ‘R’ Us section opened in late July.

It’s a public preview of an approximately 2,500 square foot Toys ‘R’ Us store on level 1 inside Macy’s which will open at the end of September, said Allison Edheimer, associate for external communications with Macy’s Inc.

“The Toys ‘R’ Us brand will come to life in-store with playful colored fixtures as well as hands-on demonstration tables for customers to interact with various toy assortments,” she said.

In September, customers can expect a ‘shop-in-shop’ sales experience featuring sectioned toy aisles, interactive activities, and unique Toy ‘R’ Us branding, including a ‘Geoffrey On A Bench’ photo opportunity for families with its beloved mascot, Geoffrey the Giraffe.

To celebrate the openings, all Macy’s stores, including Citrus Heights, will host nine days of in-store events beginning October 15 through October 23, which will include family-friendly activities and daily giveaways from brands like Barbie, LEGO, Play-Doh and more, Edheimer said.

The once-storied toy store went bankrupt and closed all its stores in 2018. Its former location on Greenback Lane has since re-opened as a Hobby Lobby arts and crafts store.

Toys ‘R’ Us has since established its own designated e-commerce section on Macys.com which customers can access now in addition to its own dedicated ToysRUs.com site.
