Sacramento Valley Symphonic Band Association President David Meyer awards a $1,000 scholarship to music student Megan Lynch. The presentation followed the teenage percussionist’s performance in Carmichael Park.

CARMICHAEL, CA (MPG) - Presented during the Sacramento Valley Symphonic Band Association’s recent festival in Carmichael Park, a $1,000 youth scholarship was awarded to student musician Megan Lynch.

The prize crowned the Granite Bay High graduate as the association’s 2024 soloist contest winner.  Accompanied by the Amador County Concert Band, Lynch, 18, gave a xylophone performance that delighted park audiences.

“She mastered a new piece of music just for this performance,” said contest chair Grant Parker. “Not only was Megan virtuosic, she also showed the sense of humor the 1925 piece called for. She was poised, professional and the crowd loved her.”

The cash prize will go toward Lynch’s studies at the University of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music.

The Sacramento Valley Symphonic Band Association Youth Artist Soloist Scholarship has been awarded annually for 30 years. Applicants must be enrolled in a Northern California high school band program.  For more information, go to www.svsba.net.
