MARYSVILLE, CA - Concerns over the structural integrity of the Marysville Hotel have prompted the Marysville City Council to convene a special meeting this Friday at 9 a.m. The meeting, set to take place in the Council Chambers at Marysville City Hall, aims to deliberate on an emergency proclamation regarding the hotel’s condition.

Scheduled to begin at 9:15 a.m., the session marks the city’s initial move toward seeking assistance from the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (CalOES) and possibly the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

The urgency stems from an engineering report presented to city officials by Jackson & Sands Engineering, Inc. The report, received Wednesday afternoon, warns that the Marysville Hotel is "at significant risk of failure under normal wind loading and current gravity loads." Engineers highlighted potential sudden and severe failures, particularly in the uppermost wall, parapet, and the façade near the top of the building.

To mitigate risks, engineers recommended establishing a safety perimeter extending 1.5 times the building’s height, approximately 105 feet, as per CalOES guidelines. City authorities are coordinating efforts with the California Department of Transportation (CalTrans), local fire agencies, and the California Highway Patrol to safeguard public safety.

“This is currently the City’s highest priority. We’re working collectively on a solution to open up traffic on the state route in the shortest time possible,” said Marysville City Manager Jim Schaad. “We will also be seeking ways to reroute traffic to minimize economic impact to local businesses during the detours. In the meantime, we ask the public, business owners, and commuters to be patient with us as we work through the next steps.”
