CARMICHAEL, CA (MPG) - A new flagpole will be installed at Carmichael Park in front of the Veterans Memorial Building, at noon Sunday, Nov. 10. The flagpole will feature the U.S. flag, and beneath it, the POW/MIA (Prisoner of War/Missing in Action) flag will be displayed.

The flag-raising ceremony, conducted by the Color Guard Team of American Legion Post 861, will take place outside the entrance to the Veterans Memorial Building. Following the ceremony, attendees are invited to enjoy a short speech along with cake and refreshments inside the hall.

Bob Fitzgerald, a retired Master Sargeant with the U.S. Air Force and a lifelong member of both the American Legion Legislative Action Post 861 and the Disabled American Veterans Ray Clark Chapter 35. is leading the initiative.

Fitzgerald expressed appreciation for the collaborative effort that made this project a reality.

“We have Carmichael Park Management to thank for their guidance and great assistance in seeing this project come to fruition,” Fitzgerald said.

Significant funding for the flagpole has come from local organizations. The Carmichael Park Foundation matched donations, while the Kiwanis Club of Carmichael, the Carmichael Elks Lodge and American Legion Post 861 provided major contributions.

“We also thank the veterans and others who donated to make this project a reality,” Fitzgerald added.

Various organizations will present at the event to welcome attendees, including representatives from the American Legion Legislative Action Post 861, Disabled American Veterans – Roy Clark Chapter 35, and Vietnam Veterans of America – Sacramento Chapter 500.

The Veterans Memorial Building is located on 5750 Grant Ave.
