CARMICHAEL, CA (MPG) – The Walgreens located between Marconi Avenue and Fair Oaks Blouevard in Carmichael is set to close its doors in April, according to a sign posted outside of the store.
This store is part of the pharmaceutical chain that provided a place to locally pick-up prescriptions and get vaccine shots. Customers could find a variety of vaccines and receive them in-store. Shots that were available via the Walgreens pharmacy included for the prevention of the flu, COVID-19, pneumonia, shingles and various other illnesses. Services such as same-day pick up and drive-thru were convenient options available for customers as well.

Walgreens provided a statement on March 17 to the Carmichael Times about the closure that said, “Our retail pharmacy business is central to our go-forward business strategy. However, increased regulatory and reimbursement pressures are weighing on our ability to cover the costs associated with rent, staffing, and supply needs. It is never an easy decision to close a store. We know that our stores are important to the communities that we serve, and therefore do everything possible to improve the store performance. When closures are necessary, like the one in Sacramento, we will work in partnership with community stakeholders to minimize customer disruptions. We intend to redeploy the majority of our team members from those stores that we close.”
It had previously been announced by Walgreens in a report from October 2024 that the closure of 1,200 stores over the next three years is part of their business strategy, which includes the store on Fair Oaks Boulevard.
The store and pharmacy will both close at noon April 30. Any current prescription files held at the pharmacy will be sent to the Walgreens at 4200 Arden Way in Sacramento and patients will be notified by mail about this transfer. However, any Walgreens pharmacy can help with prescriptions such as the store at 6144 Dewey Drive in Citrus Heights.
